Constitutional Values for Common and Collective Good
Why?
Sensing the perception and misconceptions surrounding the Indian Constitution, as well as the increasing emphasis on instantaneous processes over democratic principles, empathy, fraternity, and justice, and the dominant perception of our constitution, a mindset-focused initiative for developing vital understanding and adoption of constitutional values has become an essential component for civil society actors. In general terms, vocabulary, language and discussion on constitutional values is considered to be a domain of constitutional law experts or academicians, or the subject of values has been handed over to spiritual leaders alone.
Context and Role of Vikas Samvad
The reality is that socialization of constitutional values is a critical requirement for the well-being of the humane aspect of society. In this context, Vikas Samvad engages with the community of writers, communicators, lawyers, youth, and civil society members through the approach of continuous learning and co-creation of methods for understanding and internalizing the essence of constitutional values.
Therefore, it must engage and facilitate the methodological processes for perspective development, capacity strengthening and practices of the individuals, institutions and partners for internalizing the meaning and practicing elements of Constitutional Values. Towards this end, it also needs to showcase its functional connection with people’s issues and socio-economic challenges and ensure a more profound understanding of the critical significance of fraternity, justice, personal liberty, equity, democratic values etc. With the social behavior, policy frameworks and governance processes catalyzed through contextual knowledge management, co-created training modules and integration of strategic communication, the civil society and the larger society can be expectedly better benefited.
