The fellowship is dedicated to promoting awareness and self-realisation on constitutional values for crucial organs of constitutional system – lawyers. This fellowship aims at knowing, believing and adopting constitutional values in life. The focus is on incorporating constitutional values into work and changing the behaviour of lawyers. It is assumed that since the roles of lawyers/advocates are interlinked with the law, they have a clear understanding of constitutional values. However, the processes in their work are rather devoid of this connection. This vulnerability overshadows these professionals.
Following the encouraging past experience of media fellowships, a fellowship on constitutional values has been launched. Nyay Maitri Fellowship duly addresses internal and behavioural changes occurring in the fellows.
With this objective, this fellowship is a two-way process to think, understand, communicate and learn constitutional values. This will help in developing consciousness apart from building our own narrative towards constitutional values in a shared manner.
To achieve this objective, Nyay Maitri fellowships have been provided to 20 advocates from Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh (five districts Raipur, Surguja, Koriya, Surajpur and MCB (Manendragarh-Chirmiri-Bharatpur).
Beneficiary Groups
Lawyers/advocates, law students and legal academician who have faith in Indian Constitution and core values along with their peer group members.
Key Intervention
Our interventions include:
- This program is a knowledge building Initiative for journalists and writers to strengthen Constitutional Values.
- Advancing journalism and writing that are grounded in research and serve the national interest.
- Empowering a group of advocates to provide legal assistance for marginalized communities through insightful reporting on health, education, and social equity
- Orientation of lawyers on Imbibing Constitutional Values, providing hand-holding support, and Imparting Practical Insight.
- Organising a Constitutional Dialogue Series with fellow advocates, legal students.
- Creating books and video material in simple language to inculcate consciousness of constitutional values.
- Conducting research and creating reference materials on legal issues.
