Title
Ensuring Health and Nutrition through Education in 5 Slums of Bhopal
Details
The phenomenon of increased urbanization in India is facing one of its foremost challenges in the form of disparity between redistribution of economic opportunity and growth. The centre of poverty is gradually shifting towards urban centres and this situation is further worsened by already high population densities, poor infrastructure and a general lack of effective housing policy and provisioning for the poor.
A good quality education is the foundation of health and well-being. For people to lead healthy and productive lives, they need knowledge to prevent sickness and disease. For children and adolescents to learn, they need to be well nourished and healthy.
We are working here in 5 urban slums in which Creative Learning centre was started in Bhopal for free education for the children of deprived society especially Gond community, Mahad, Buddhist and poor children in Scheduled Castes. The specialty of this centre is that children involved in begging are being rehabilitated through education. Along with teaching these children through sports, nutritious food is also provided. Along with the children, their parents are also counselled here.
Bal Palikas / Children’s organizations have been formed in the five settlements, in which a total number of 253 children, 5 adolescent groups, in which 116 adolescent girls have been formed. teachers are appointed for them, who organize activities with children every month and give information on different schemes like nutrition, education, de-addiction along with covid awareness.
